Asia goes ‘online’ for education

With an expected turnover of over USD12 billion by 2018, Asia is deemed the second largest e-learning market in the world. Accelerated growth is anticipated in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar.

Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) provides an e-learning portal that offers users downloads, teaching resources, and teaching plans along with e-books for Chinese education. India is now home to many online schools – a more economical option for those who cannot afford to attend traditional colleges. Programs in these schools are expected to be valued at USD1 billion (in revenue) by 2020.

Is Asia’s online education industry poised to take off?
