Indonesia records a boom in the health supplement market

Spire Consultant, Aloysius Alvino Tawas, shares his thoughts on the growth of the health supplements market in Indonesia.

The Covid-19 pandemic and increased awareness of health and nutrition have boosted the demand for health supplements significantly. The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) reported that the food and health supplement market in Indonesia would be worth US$318 million by 2021.

Aloysis revealed that the consumption of the health supplement market grew by 12% a year between 2017 and 2021. He also shared that the health supplement market in the country has increased direct investment in related industries, which reached US$ 4.7 million in 2017.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for health supplements, specifically for immunity building, has increased by 200%. Health supplements are also used to help in coping with nutritional deficiencies.
