Spire Consultant, Happy Laili, discusses the scope of the halal industry in Indonesia with TechnoBusiness.
With the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has a robust halal industry and rising demand for halal products. The halal industry is wide-ranging and includes food, fashion, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and even tourism. Halal food and sharia finance have the highest value among the wide range of halal products, while its halal fashion industry is the third-largest in the world.
Although many halal industries were negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, most of them are expected to rebound as things go back to normal in 2022. Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism is already running a Halal Tourism program in several tourist destinations, while pharmaceutical and cosmetic products are projected to grow by 5.83% and 12.62%, respectively, in 2025. Indonesia is on its way to being a global halal industry powerhouse.
