Leon Perera, Chief Executive Officer of Spire Research and Consulting, shared his thoughts on business challenges and opportunities as companies decarbonise their operations with The Business Times, Singapore.
October 2021 brings the spotlight on the discussion on climate change. The Singapore Energy Summit, held on 25 October, discussed the challenges and opportunities of the transition to a low-carbon future. The UN Climate Change Conference, where world leaders convened on 31 October, aimed to secure a global emissions rate of net-zero by 2050 as proposed by the 2015 Paris Agreement.
On decarbonising, Leon comments that the immediate challenge for businesses is tracking its carbon footprint, reducing it and reporting it. He recommends that companies speed up moving their fleets and machinery to renewable energy. Leon also revealed two business opportunities created by the decarbonization journey. First, there are business venture opportunities in reducing methane emissions. And second, there are business prospects in biodiversity and natural habitat protection.
