Food Trends in the new normal of 2021

Spire revealed findings of its latest survey on food trends in Southeast Asia (SEA) at its recent live webinar, 2021: The New Shape of the Food Industry.

Held on 10 December 2020, the webinar was moderated by Spire’s Head of Operations, Ingrid Rix. The panel comprised Spire’s Deputy CEO Japnit Singh, Director of Carbon InQ Pte Ltd Alexius Yeo, and Johannes Boroh who has a Doctorate in Business Administration.

Japnit started the webinar by sharing Spire’s latest survey on food trends in SEA. He talked about how Covid-19 has hastened some trends, including consumer’s concern about sustainability and impact of food source. He disclosed that over 80% of consumers are mindful of food ingredients for health reasons. And almost as many are willing to pay premium prices for better quality food.

Johannes shared a business model that recommends business tools for companies. Alexius talked about permaculture and noted that consumer interest in sustainability and healthy ingredients is increasing to such an extent that many are choosing to create their own edible gardens.
