Fighting Climate Change Together

September 15, 2023 – The ozone layer protects us from harmful ultraviolet rays. In the 1980s, scientists raised the alarm about a hole in the ozone, caused by chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Thanks to joint international efforts to ban CFCs, the Earth’s ozone layer is finally on track to recover to pre-1980s levels within decades, UN experts reported in January.
On World Ozone Day, we celebrate the collective commitment made by nations to tackle this issue. It is rare, good news as we reel from extreme heat and weather. More importantly, it shows that, working together, we can reduce and mitigate the effects of climate change.
