Dr Justin Lee, Managing Director of Spire Research and Consulting in South Korea, shared his observations about the need for harmony in extended family households in South Korea, in JoongAang newspaper.

In Korea, many couples decide to live with their parents. As the parents get older, they require more assistance and care.

When living in an extended family household, Dr Lee’s research in the field of Korean elder-care suggests that discord is common, as there is significant potential for inter-personal tensions between family members of different generations.

To promote harmony in the household, the onus is on husbands to nurture strong marital relationships with wives, never allowing these tensions to undermine that.
